A programmer living in mechanical, George Wilkins is a recurring character in Silo. He had an unsanctioned relationship with Juliette Nichols and was keenly interested in relics and finding out the purpose of the Silo. It is speculated that he was a member of the Flamekeepers.
Throughout the series[edit | edit source]
George worked at a repair stall within the Mids of the Silo and owned an apartment on Level 68. He was close friends with Juliette Nichols, and eventually would come into possession of the Hard drive, a red-level relic outlawed by Judicial.
George used a technique he had learned from Allison Becker to recover files from the hard drive. He and Allison were eventually able to find files buried on the hard drive dating back to the 'before years' — the years of the Silo before the Rebellion that Judicial had tried to erase form the minds of the Silo's residents. Despite initially not wanting anything to do with the files, given their status (and the punishment if found guilty of possessing a red-level relic), George was eventually able to discover schematics on the hard drive that eventually led him to discover an old service tunnel in the Down Deeps of the Silo.
A year after Allison was, by her own admission, sent out to clean, George transferred to Mechanical and began working in the Down Deep. He established a camp in a closed off section of the Silo — which he accessed via the service tunnel he had discovered from the hard drive — and discovered a large digging machine which had presumably been used to construct the Silo. George would eventually meet Juliette in the Down Deep and the two would begin an unsanctioned relationship.
George shared many of the secrets about the Silo he had found, including his collection of relics and the location of his camp. George eventually finds what he is looking for, but is arrested by Douglas Trumbull, working on behalf of Judicial, before he is able to share it with Juliette. George eventually throws himself over the side of the stairwell of the Silo to prevent Judicial torturing him for the location of the hard drive.
