Synopsis[edit | edit source]

During her investigation, Juliette uncovers disturbing secrets about someone she thought she knew

Plot[edit | edit source]

Juliette reflects on her cherished memories with George as she and Deputy Billings investigate the aftermath of Douglas Trumbull's death, who was the cause of Marnes' demise and subsequently murdered by Simms. They encounter a locksmith who struggles to gain access to an apartment, prompting Juliette to breach the entrance, only to discover that the power had been disconnected by the Judicial, despite their regulations against such actions.

During their exploration for evidence in the darkened apartment, Deputy Billings stumbles upon an artifact that seems out of context. Upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that this artifact is identical to the one previously discovered by Juliette underground, given to her by George. This raises the intriguing possibility of Juliette deliberately placing the artifact there to instigate a new investigation into George's case.

The narrative then reveals a past conversation between George and Juliette about the illegality of relic possession. George argues that these relics were once functional tools and could have served useful purposes for people in the past. Despite Juliette' caution against George engaging in relic exploration, George presents her with a timepiece as a symbol of his belief that these items hold significance, despite their prohibition. This watch is seen regularly adorning Juliette' wrist.

Meanwhile, back at work, Juliette finds herself unable to locate the artifact she discovered. At that moment, Billings arrives with a disappointing report from the recycling team. Upon discovering that Juliette still retains the artifact found at Trumbull's residence, he expresses concern about not submitting it to the Judicial within the mandatory 12-hour window. Despite initial reluctance, Juliette eventually concedes and agrees to seek Judge Meadow's approval to proceed with the investigation.

At Judicial, it is evident that Judge Meadows is unwell, raising suspicions of foul play involving Simms. Juliette' request for investigation is approved by Sims, due to it being the day of forgiveness, when individuals might be more susceptible to questioning. Despite Juliette' desire to proceed solo, a wary Billings insists on accompanying her, given the heightened scrutiny from the Judicial.

The duo proceed to Patrick Kennedy's residence, knowing his past involvement with relics might provide a lead. Despite Kennedy's reluctance to discuss relics due to past trauma, he reluctantly points them towards a potential helper.

Another flashback reveals George's fascination with relics and their historic significance. This is where Juliette reveals that she's repaired the watch he had gifted her, a moment that strengthens their bond as dreamers in the strictly utilitarian society of Silo.

Simms, at Judicial, is shown scrutinizing the artifact brought in by Juliette, finding that it was previously identified by George Wilkins as an illicit relic. Concurrently, Juliette and Billings arrive at an apartment provided by Kennedy, where they encounter Regina Jackson. Regina identifies Juliette' watch as George's, revealing their past romantic relationship, which she believes was solely for George to gain access to her affluent family resources for procuring relics. She also implies that George shifted his affections to Juliette, which deepens her bitterness.

Upon returning to the Sheriff's office, Simms accuses Juliette of aiding in concealing evidence, particularly the relic found at Trumbull's place, leading to a tense exchange. However, Bernard interjects with an alternative theory about Trumbull's potential involvement, causing a shift in the dynamics. He proposes that Trumbull found the relic and took it home with him, believing it to be nothing more than a small toy—not a relic.

Upon leaving, Billings confronts Juliette about her attempt to implicate him at Judicial. Juliette counters by revealing that she's noticed his symptoms of a secret ailment, causing him distress. Later, Juliette is seen communicating her resignation decision to Martha, citing her disillusionment with George as the cause. Martha challenges this decision, encouraging Juliette to continue her pursuit of the truth.
