Silo Wiki

The much respected Sheriff of the Silo, Holston Becker was a main character in the first season of Silo, and the husband of Allison Becker. After the death of his wife, who went out to clean, things start to unravel in the Silo for Holston as he discovers that his wife was right, and nothing is as it seems.

Throughout the series[edit | edit source]

Holston is introduced as the Sheriff of the Silo, having been serving in that post for numerous years before the events of the first season. He was married to Allison Becker since May 5, SY126, but the two struggled to conceive a child despite having won the lottery twice before.

Holston is aghast when he and Allison win the lottery for a third time, believing that this might be their chance to finally conceive a child. The two try everything they can given that this is their last chance to try. Despite their attempts, however, Holston and his wife are unsuccessful in their attempts to conceive a child, and towards the latter end of SY143, Allison becomes convinced that something afoul is happening within the Silo stopping them from having a child.

Holston oversees Allison's exile from the Silo.

Things become more difficult for Holston as the Sheriff when Allison removes her own Birth control implant—which should have been removed previously by the Doctor, and was the reason she could not conceive—and eventually proclaims that she wishes to "go outside". As the Sheriff, Holston is responsible for the difficult task of overseeing her arrest and exile from the Silo.[1]

Meeting Juliette[edit | edit source]

Two years later, Holston has largely adapted to life in the Silo without Allison, but still finds day-to-day tasks difficult. Eventually, he meets Juliette Nichols, an engineer from Mechanical, when he and Deputy Sam Marnes begin to investigate the strange death of George Wilkins[1], a member of the IT Department. Holston learns from Juliette that things surrounding George's death are not what they seem, and Juliette believes that George's death was suspicious. Holston eventually learns that George and Juliette were in an unsanctioned relationship—an act that is directly punishable under the conventions of the Pact.

Juliette and Holston discover George's stash of relics in the cavern.

The two investigate George's death further, and discover a cavern below the Silo. In the cavern, they find numerous relics, including a hard drive, and it becomes clear that George was involved in the dealings of red-level relics within the Silo. It quickly becomes clear for Juliette, however, that Holston's reasons for helping her are not what they seem—he is still investigating the reason that his wife, Allison decided to go outside. Holston promises that he will investigate the events surrounding George's death further, and will send her a signal when he has discovered some tangible evidence.[2].

Going outside[edit | edit source]

Three months later, Holston asks to leave the Silo in a similar fashion to that of his late wife. As is tradition, Holston leaves a note for the Mayor and Judicial, naming Juliette as the next Sheriff of the Silo. He bequeaths his Sheriff badge to her, to which he has inscribed "Truth" on the reverse as a fail safe incase she turned down the position.

Shortly after this, Holston is fitted with his suit, and given wool to clean the camera lens outside of the Silo. When he arrives outside of the airlock—and essentially outside of the law—Holston sees a green and lucious world, and realises that Allison had been right after all; the world outside is not as they know it. Wanting everyone in the Silo to see what he sees, he cleans the camera, but dies moments later at the side of Allison's body after removing his helmet. It is revealed that the air outside of the airlock is indeed, as they know it.[2]
